Terrell's Blunder
After bashing the 49ers for several weeks, Terrell Owens may remain a 49er on a technicality. Seems Owens' agent failed to file the necessary paperwork to make him a free agent. If I were the 49ers, I'd try to trade him as fast as possible. Not only would I trade him, but I'd make sure he was on the worst team possible. That would serve him right!

Last Hurrah...Until The Draft Of Course!
Before I completely devote myself to school and Nascar, just a brief comment about the Superbowl.
Some people (mostly NFL execs) described this as the best Superbowl ever. HA! They must not have watched the third quarter and the vast majority of the first half. The teams remained scoreless until late in the second quarter, breaking a Superbore record. Besides, more people ended up talking about Janet Jackson's escapades then the actual game when all was said and done.
I HATE NFL MEDIOCRITY!!!

The deed is done
...and so officially is the Gehlke Bros. Football 2003 season, now that the Surfy Trophy has been presented. You can check out the full story with photo highlights on our website.
Lots of changes to the site are on the drawing board for 2004. Be sure to check back around late August for the new season.

Surfy trophy update
OK, it looks like we'll do the Surfy presentation Feb. 8. I think Sean is still blowing off the dust bunnies from its four years of sitting on his shelf.

Almost called it
32-29 Pats. My prognosticating powers were nearly at the peak of perfection.
I taped the game, mainly for the commercials (which turned out to be duller than the game for a change) and went out shopping. I kept an ear to the radio to satisfy my suspicions that I wasn't missing much on the tube. Wish I'd caught the incident with the guy that stormed the field in the ref's outfit just after halftime. Or maybe I'm glad I didn't.
I did watch the last 12 minutes to see the game-winning drive. I think the Stupor Bore would be much better if they'd just cancel all the pregame hype, cut out the halftime theatrics and play just the fourth quarter with the score starting at 0-0. ... And then ditch the locker room interviews, trophy presentations and lame analysis afterward. Oh well, it's the one time of the year that I actually want to go shopping, so perhaps there is an upside.

Super Thoughts
I never thought Carolina would get this far after going 1-15 two years ago. I don't think I would have predicted their championship game and division round victories. Not to take anything away from them, however, but they beat the Philadelphia Choking Eagles, the Formerly Great St. Louis Rams, and the formerly woeful Dallas Cowgirls to get to this point.
This game should be more of a test. Let's predict New England over Carolina in a defensive yawner 23-17.
Less Than Super Thoughts
I guess Terrell Owens has burned his bridges. He blames his quarterback and everyone else but himself. He made light of Jeff Garcia's drunk driving arrest and generally stuck his foot in his mouth. Even Joe Montana, a player who never criticized a teammate mentioned that the last time he saw Owens on the field, Owens dropped at least three passes.
I am reminded of another 49er who b****ed and complained about everything. Ricky Watters left as a free agent, and proceeded to have a less than distinguished end to his career, splitting time with Charlie Garner in Philly and ending up in Seattle. There is a difference, Watters always gave full effort when he was out on the field. Owens does not. I hope that Philly or Atlanta, wherever Owens ends up, win every game, because they will find Owens B.S. isn't worth putting up with for long.
As for the Raiders, they hired Norv Turner as head coach. Turner was a failure as head coach of the Redskins, so don't expect much more than that with the Raiders.

Today's the day!
Dig those commercials... ignore the halftime show... Oh yeah, and hope you got the right squares in the office pool. This is it, NawFuL fans (unless you count next week's Pro Bowl, but who does?) — the last hurrah for the 2003 season.
I'm probably setting myself up for disappointment, but... Patsies 31, Panthers 27.
