JUST ENOUGH TO LOSE
Oh, so close! The 49ers gave one away to the Saints with a key fumble, an interception, a missed interception on defense, and a bunch of costly penalties. The 49ers have played better football than both of their opponents this season, despite being beat up with injuries, but this team does not seem to know how to win. That could be due to youth and inexperience, or it could be due to poor coaching, or some combination of the two. The 49ers may learn how to win these close games by the end of the season, but for now they have all the looks of a 5-11 team.
On the bright side, other than one interception, Ken Dorsey had all the looks of a calm and poised NFL quarterback. He took a beating, especially early in the game, but came back strong. In this rebuilding year, don't be surprised if he takes the starting job from Tim Rattay permanently.

ANOTHER MONDAY NIGHT SPLIT
Hello Junior Bro fans! For those of you wondering where I've been, no, I haven't been hiding my head in the sand after losing the coveted Surfy. However, working fifty hours a week has made it difficult to keep up with posting.
I felt I should provide an update of our week two splits since Senior Bro and family are getting blown away in New Orleans.
There are four splits this week:
Denver @ Jacksonville
Indianapolis @ Tennessee
Seattle at Tampa Bay
I took the road teams, Senior Bro has the home teams.
AND, we have another Monday Night split.
Senior Bro took Minnesota while I took Philadelphia at home.
I LOVE MONDAY NIGHT SPLITS!!!

Bayou-bound
The Miami Dolphins moved up their season opener a day last week to avoid Hurricane Ivan, and all for a storm that never hit southern Florida. Wonder what the New Orleans Saints will do after the Crescent City gets thrashed by Ivan this weekend? Right now the Saints are lying low in San Antonio, but so far it looks like the game is still on for Sunday.
What if the NawFuL held a game at the Superdome and no one came... Oh wait, the 49ers probably won't show up either.

Deja vu all over again
Sheesh! We're only one week into the new season and I'm already 0 for 1 in the Monday night column, and down a game to the Junior Bro. And that after such an auspicious start on Thursday. Watching the Panthers lose to the Packers reminded me why I don't like watching Monday Night Football. My success rate on that night has been poor, to say the least, and there is nothing worse than wasting three hours of your life to watch your picks fail every week.
Coming into this season I had a goal to improve my Monday predictions. I have nowhere to go from here but up.

What a great game
I was at work tonight, so I didn't get to see all of the Colts-Pats game. But what I saw was enough to make me think that those two teams will meet again in the AFC Championship come January. They both looked in late-season form, particularly the victorious Patsies. This is far from the team that won its first Stupor Bore three seasons ago -- there's much more swagger now. Maybe overconfidence will be their undoing later in the season, but at least for now it looks like Tom Brady will live up to expectations as the next coming of Joe Montana.
Also, if tonight's game was any indication, this will be another hard-fought battle for the Surfy this year. Glenn gets the 1-game lead, but there are 15 games yet to go this weekend.
*** Important note *** The Tennessee-Miami game has been moved to Saturday in hopes of avoiding Hurricane Ivan. That makes four days of season-opening football action in Week 1. Let's hope this isn't the start of a new NawFuL trend

Oh great and glorious day!
A new season is about to begin. We've already got our first split. The Patsies are about to embark on their quest to defend their title, and so is the Senior Bro. Just a few hours until kickoff... Let's get it on!

Dubious distinctions...
Preseason is history and now it's time to get serious about NawFuL predictions. Here's one I'll make right now: The 49ers have a long, tough road ahead of them. They are the only team in the league to complete preseason without a win. And it doesn't get any easier, guys. Not when you have two feeble quarterbacks and at least one of them isn't healthy. This is going to be painful to watch. But I suppose we'll have to.
Four days...

It's up!
The revisions have been made, barring any glitches I may have missed. Getting psyched for the kickoff. Just 8 days...
