Random thoughts from the road
Seattle is a beautiful city, and do they ever love football. Everywhere we went there were reminders of how important the Seahawks, Huskies and Cougars are to the local fan base.
Ironically, the weekend we were in the Emerald City, the Seahawks had a bye, but there is lots of excitement about their next home game Oct. 12 against the 49ers. And why shouldn't there be? The Niners have looked NawFuL in their recent misadventures. The 'Hawks are a remarkable 3-0 going into this week's game at Green Bay, where head coach Mike Holmgren should know the opponent as well as anyone, having coached the Packers for many years. If the Seahawks should somehow emerge from Lambeau Field with their perfect record in tact, they will be a mighty force to be reckoned with. Imagine the confidence boost!
Safeco Field, where the Mariners play, and Seahawks Stadium are literally side by side on the Seattle waterfront. We drove between the two of them on our way back to our hotel. How they ever find room for all the cars on game days is a mystery to me, but they must be used to it. The A's and Mariners were in town for the final weekend of the regular baseball season and we never noticed a traffic influx, so either nobody was going to the games or they have things better organized than it appears.
