Not so bad after all
I think I dodged a bullet this week. No... I know I dodged one. I took a long look at my picks after initially coming away with the home team in 13 of the 14 games and tried to figure out the half dozen visiting teams that would pull upsets. But in the end I didn't change anything because doing so usually leads to disaster. Besides, I don't know which of yesterday's road winners I would have picked beside Minnesota. Let's see...
Detroit?... They had one win on the road after a 24-game drought. Against undefeated Atlanta, I don't think so.
New York Giants?... Maybe, and I almost did.
Tampa Bay?... Hadn't won yet and saw no reason why New Orleans would be their first.
St. Louis?... Seattle plays too well at home these days. It was an overtime loss, after all.
Baltimore?... OK, I could have picked the Ravens and almost did. But Sunday night and Monday night games are always bad news. If I'd picked them they would have lost.
Tennessee?... Not at Lambeau. No way. Oh yeah, it was Monday night.
And still more ways to trip myself up... I almost picked Arizona over the 49ers. That would have looked like a good pick until five minutes to go in the fourth quarter, when the Niners tossed two TD's and made 2-point conversions, then kicked a game-winning field goal in OT.
So in the end I might have picked up two games I didn't get, but I would have thrown away one that I did. I can't say I'm disappointed in a 3-for-4 split performance.
